Teaching beyond the classroom: Skyfarms, rooftop farming

“We discussed the function of the sticky seeds after the children figured out that they were seeds by process of elimination.”

Today we went up to the Skyfarm – our vegetable garden on the rooftop.

TSkyFarmshe older children planted the bigger bean plants. Then we discussed plants that provide humans with food. They ran around quite a bit as the older boys discovered some seeds that were sticky like black jacks, so they made a game out of it.

We discussed the function of the sticky seeds after the children figured out that they were seeds by process of elimination. When we returned, all the kids drew pictures of plants. Some labelled the plants and the older kids added the functions of each part of the plant.
